I hate the masthead graphic. Did anyone notice there are two pyramids? WTF?
Good thing that CSS lets you throw things against the wall to see what sticks. If I had to keep the whole of the layout and rules in my head, well, let’s just say that there’s a reason they call the internet a great echo chamber.
Some day all of this is going to have an easy graphical GUI, and we’ll stop programming the web in assembly. At this point we’re still writing the ‘code’ in a language without good control flow, proper scoping, and a defined syntax so loose it would make a hooker blush. Heck, we can’t even agree on a “compiler.” (witness the differences in output from IE to Safari, to Opera, to Firefox)
To switch metaphors mid-stream, we’ve built this beautiful fast highway, but we insist on driving hand built jalopies over it. Worse, we change tires at every off ramp. I am completely impressed by the ability of web developers to actually manage this feat without completely blowing a gasket. (Phew, almost slipped into a 3rd metaphor there.)
Are you also running Firefox under linux and IE under Windows in virtual machines on your Mac, so you can properly test? If not, have a big bump. You’re not rolling yet. 😛 Enjoy your tweaking.
