Science != Science
Stupid.
Stupid.
Fundie Bastards.
In what should have been clear all along, there was never any real push for Intelligent Design to be considered a supportable alternative to Darwinian evolutionary theory. No, what the Crazy Christian Right wanted all along was to muddy the waters of rationality and sanity just enough so that their murky voodoo would be seen as “at least as clear” as true science.
Now that they've almost managed to do that in Kansas, now they're trying to redefine what Science actually is.
No longer will Science be “limited to natural explanations” of the world around us, but will instead call it “a systematic method of continuing investigation”, but won't/can't provide what kinds of answers they're looking for.
None of these people have any real idea of how painstaking it is to perform experimental science. None of these people realize that their definition completely and utterly guts the notions of objective evidence, mutable theory, control factors or even peer review. Without those things, what do you get?
Well, you get a bunch of irrational nonsense that ends up being on par with work that actually sticks to scientific method and all its rigor. You get Kansas.
You get stupidity, and clearly those people who are so irresponsible as to blather without evidence and righteously proclaim Proof without Truth will have the leg up because the rest of us responsible ones, the rest of us critical ones, the rest of us thinkers will be relegated to attempting to debunk the vomitus spewed by the Fundies.
Oh, wait. Sounds familiar...

Despite their cute sunflower state route markers, Kansas is a really dumb place.
It could spread. It could also die a slow ugly death in Kansas. Can you imagine intelligent science teachers staying in the state? Can you imagine wanting to be a teacher there? Smert Kansass Graduwit! (can I put that on a bumper sticker? with reversed r's?)
Let's just watch, in 20 years a the intelligence of a Kansas educated child will be held on par with innate intelligence of the offspring of married siblings. I'm also quite sure my brother Jon will be proud of his Kansas educated children.
Lee
PS. Perhaps we in California should move to discredit all high school diplomas issued in Kansas when submitted to the University system here. If they want to attend our university system, they should have an independent GED issued outside that state.
Perhaps the Intelligent Design people should be prevented from using medicines or other products developed as a result of the theory of evolution. As an example, the flu virus mutates each year so scientists have to come up with a revised vaccine. Health care workers could deny innoculations to I.D. people, similar to laws being proposed that would allow religious doctors and pharmacists to deny birth control or care for "immoral" people (attempts were made to pass a law in Michigan that would allow doctors to refuse to treat homosexuals). Of course such a law would result in natural selection against the I.D. folks, which maybe isn't such a bad thing.
This sounds like it's getting serious. And it sounds very familiar. Feels Austrian, say 1940's. Talk about terrorism. I'm very afraid.
Hojoto
Wow. Generalizations, Comparisons to Hitler, plain bad science(a mutating virus is adapting, not evolving), unkindness... it's all here.
Nothing new, or unexpected, however.
Charlie, adaptation IS evolution. You're just plain incorrect.
Unkindness? How do you behave towards those with an agenda that hurts you?
Hitler? I believe he was referring to a fear of that kind of fascism.
"Unkindness? How do you behave towards those with an agenda that hurts you?"
Strawman. Acknowledge the fact that there is rampant unkindness here before challenging Charlie on his.
Prove that there is, Hoody.
And then prove that it's unfounded and undeserved by you Unkind Godfolk.
Charlie's assertion (and yours), so it's yours to prove.
You're quite ballsy, hoody. You start a blog, state that your rules are unfair but they're your rules and tough luck on that, and then you ban those who nonetheless follow your 'rules' but with whom you do not agree.
and then you come to this blog and attempt to dictate to me how I should behave.
