Cynicism and Gustav

If anything, the last eight years have taught me to be first and foremost a cynic when it comes to Republicans in federal government.

So when the Republicans started falling all over themselves to get their conscious sympathies right (paradox, I know!) for what may befall the Gulf Coast as Himmicane Gustav continues on its path towards New Orleans I have to ask: how desperate are they to win? Well, those sympathetic Republicans have decided to “tone down” the celebratory posture of their upcoming Convention will have to be downed down, muted.

Oh no! Did anyone—even Republicans—have much to celebrate? Is anyone truly excited about the prospect of John McCane and token vagina Palin as the heads of the Executive Branch?

And it doesn’t stop there! FEMA promises to “be more proactive this time”. What a bunch of chowderheads. FEMA formally exists so that there’s a proactive response to disasters. They’re nothing about anything other than this.

So are we to applaud that they plan on doing their jobs this time around? But then again, it’s easy to see that for New Orleaneans, this time around is last time around.

So what do the Republicans do with Gustav?

Why, they make hay with it! And use it as an excuse to keep the idiot-visage of George W. Bush away from the “New” Republican party!

I heard that if token vagina Palin had passed on the VP nod, next in line was Katrina Who.

if my facts are correct and they are, Gustav had all the major players with the exception of one. Katrina had a liberal Governor. Gustav had a conservative. Fact. You are drowning 100' from shore. the liberals throw you 150' of rope and leave. the conservatives throw you 75' of rope and tell you to swim. i fell better and safer and more accomplished swimming

What "major players"?

FEMA is a federal organization, whose sole purpose is to take care of people in cases of emergency.

The rope metaphor is labored and not entirely apt to what I was saying here.

Liberals didn't *leave* anyone in that. FEMA was the primary organization to bring in *all* the rope.

Liberals would've handed me enough rope to help get me to shore. Conservatives would have thrown me back into the flood and called it protecting society and marriage.

The RNC needed a reason to keep Bush away from the convention because he's an embarrassment on every level. Gustav came in handy for that. That was my point.

FEMA's responsibility is not to prepare for emergencies but to help with relief after emergencies. That is the sole purpose of FEMA. all preparation lies with the state government. LA was better prepared than ever. i guess we can all blame GW for Katrina.

It was the Feds who were responsible for maintaining the levies. And Katrina was a "perfect storm".

about FEMA: The purpose of FEMA (begun by Presidential Order on April 1, 1979)[1][2] is to coordinate the response to a disaster which has occurred in the United States and which overwhelms the resources of local and state authorities.

it's universally agreed that FEMA didn't do its job.

It's universally agreed that it was a complete failure of FEMA and the feds. NOLA is STILL in ruins. How fast did the Wyo Valley turn around after Agnes? Dan Flood was the reason: he made sure the feds did their job in funding and assistance. (remember HUD's response?)

FEMA *failed* to "help with relief after [the] emergenc[y]". Flat out failed.

I blame GW for making it seem like FEMA did their job. I blame him for not being there IN PERSON to provide morale.

Indirectly, I blame GW for not having FEMA ready to do their job.

And even Republican voters were relieved that W. wasn't at the RNC.

the wyoming valley finished the levie system in 1998. tell me how in world do you prepare for a 500 year storm? how can you honestly blame the republicans for a 500 year storm? engineering does not work that way. economics do not work that way. i guess i have to lobby the federal government here at home to make sure the levies are 80' high instead of 42' just in case we get a 1000 year storm. other wise its always the republicans fault. i guess the mainstream media got their wish. they would rather cover a disaster where human lives are at risk. they relished the idea of a hurricane during the convention. thats twisted. W wasnt at the convention? hmmm maybe not in person but what is the difference. i think the state of LA was better prepared this time around and that reason was a state of emergency plan. they made sure things were in order before hand.
