“Wall Street and Main Street”
The Congress (which means, for all intents and purposes, Democrats) have been peddling this line all day.
The want to make sure that “what’s happened on Wall Street doesn’t happen on Main Street”.
Meaning, of course, that they’re “for the people” and are trying to protect us all from the stupid fucking mess that’s the result of unregulated financial institutions. “Freddie & Fanny” breathed their contagion into the financial world: the simple description? F & F had brilliant ideas like sub-prime mortages…and added insult to injury by securitizing those mortgages…so banks are trading securities based on stupid mortgage tricks, and you can see how that easily conflates to tying the housing markets to the overall economy. Nice to have an entire country dependent on a single “free” market, isn’t it?
That Wall Street/Main Street thing is uncomfortable to read. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s too trite, or maybe Congress shouldn’t be in the sloganeering business.
Or perhaps the cartoonish nature of a slogan only bespeaks the stupidity and short attention spans of the general public.
Obama “elitist”? Because he’s smart and he’s a quick study? Calling out a phantom “elitism” (shoo keep using that word, I do not think you know what it means) is nothing more than a means of letting intellectually lazy people feeling ok about parking their brains in the barcalounger.
