There’s a thing about lying. Falsehoods are not the opposite of truth nor are they enemies of truth: they’re a disease and you all—we all—should be treating them as such.
Disease spreads, and so I’m sure none of you would be surprised to find out that McCain’s clear and direct and knowing lies actually do trickle down.
Only in this case it’s oozing down. The slimeball morality crew on the right wing in California is spreading ugly and old lies in order to attempt to make sure the marriage remains one-penis-one-vagina.
Where’s the humble do-unto-others part of today’s Christianity? And why isn’t the community of good and decent Christians (and there are many) out there defending its own good name?
I myself don’t participate and “give” as much as I should to the cause of marriage equality, and I’m weary by now of being on the only team which stands up to the ugly “christian” efforts to deny people legal right to security and recognition in their marriages.
Don’t you people understand that all of this is on the side of love and peace—just in case you’ve forgotten, your very own Savior was big on those things—and has nothing to do with children or churches, but rather what is right and good?
Shadenfreude is something I detest, so I’ll put this in them most earnest terms I can: your hell awaits if you don’t change your ways. Do I think you’re going to go to hell? Hell no, because I don’t accept any fact of a hell.
But I do despise you all.
[…] statements such as “the letter of the law must be served” [are] dangerous to […] guiding principles. Being fair requires agreement, predictable constancy and, above all else, loyalty upward and downward in the hierarchy. Leadership guided by such principles requires no outside controls. You do your duty because it is right. And you do not obey because that is […] correct. You do it because the rightness is a thing of this moment.
